Is Vaping Around Children Safe?

You may be asking, is vaping around children safe? It is best to treat vaping the same as smoking cigarettes. As of today it is still undetermined if vaping is 100% risk free. Vaping around children is not advised just as it would be with smoking cigarettes. What we will be covering in this blog more is how to handle vaping products around children.

The FDA has been cracking down with regulations pertaining to advertisement, label requirements, and safe storage of e-liquid. Warning letters have been issued to manufacturers and retailers with products that look similar to popular candy, toy, and food brands that children are accustomed to.

Tobacco Advertisements

The Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act, has been in regulation since June 2009. Because of this regulation, advertisements within the Tobacco industry are prohibited in television, online, and sports. As you may know, vapes have been considered to be “Tobacco” for quite some time now. This is a part of keeping children away from nicotine addiction.

As of August 10, 2018 manufacturers of e-liquid and Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems (ENDS) are required to add a 20% warning on social media posts and advertisements. Because of this regulation some manufacturers are even going a step forward and regulating their social media pages to be 18+. Smoking age may vary from state to state.

Manufacturers like Ruthless Vapor are a step ahead when being FDA compliant on products. Along with labels, child proof caps(CPC) are required for all types of e-liquid containers. CPC has been around before the vaping industry blew up. Most premium e-liquid manufacturers have been using CPC. One way to check if your bottle has this feature is to twist the cap open, without applying any squeezing or force down. If it doesn’t open by just simply twisting you’re good to go!

Responsible Vaping Around Children

It is best to store your e-liquid in areas where a child can not have easy access. Along with safe storage, it is also best to store the e-liquid in dry room temperature. This is also a steeping technique used with many dessert and custard flavors. We will have a steeping ejuice blog in the near future!

Nicotine is the main concern when it comes to vaping. Nicotine is a very addictive product, it is also poisonous if ingested. We advise to always avoid contact with your skin and eyes when you are using e-liquid. In cases of accidental contact, wash thoroughly with soap and water.

Be alert where your vaping products are kept. Easily reachable places like tables, counter tops, and desks  are risky. A big priority of daily vapers is being alert for where your vaping products are discarded or stored. In cases of an accident make sure to act quickly and responsibly.

The best way to keep your children safe is to store your vaping products in hard to reach areas and dispose of others properly.

If a child accidentally ingests e-liquid, immediately contact Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222.
